Pemanfaatan tandan kosong kelapa sawit sebagai pupuk organik adalah yang paling terkenal dan sudah banyak dilakukan. Pengubahan tandan kosong kelapa sawit sebagai pupuk organik sendiri menjadi salah satu langkah mencegah limbah kelapa sawit yang dibuang ke lingkungan. Pupuk kompos masih akan berguna dan bisa dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat, sehingga masih mempunya daya guna yang tinggi. Untuk mengubah tandan kosong ini menjadi pupuk kompos atau organik, memerlukan beberapa bahan, dan juga akan melewati beberapa tahapan.

Bahan yang digunakan:

  • Tandan kosong kelapa sawit
  • Aktivator pengomposan

Alat yang digunakan :

  • Plastik atau terpal berukuran besar
  • Pencacah tandan kosong kelapa sawit
  • Sekop

Langkah pembuatan:

  • Pencacahan.Tahap pencacahan ini membutuhkan bantuan mesin agar dapat menghemat waktu dan juga tenaga. Di tahap ini, tandan kosong akan dicacah hingga berbentuk kecil dan berukuran kurang dari 5 sentimeter. Penggunaan bunch press kelapa sawit atau mesin pencacah akan membuat kadar air pada tandan sawit berkurang.
  • Inokulasi. Atau, pada proses pembuatan kompos dikenal dengan sebutan dekomposisi. Ini merupakan proses pemindahan bakteri dari habitatnya ke wadah baru. Sebenarnya, tandan yang sudah dicacah bisa dibiarkan begitu saja tanpa perlu ada proses lain. Namun lagi-lagi cara ini membutuhkan waktu yang cukup lama, bahkan bisa mencapai tahunan. Agar lebih cepat dan hemat waktu, bisa menggunakan aktivator pengomposan yang ada di pasaran. Pastikan aktivator tercampur secara merata pada tandan sawit yang sudah dicacah.
  • Inkubasi. Setelah proses inokulasi berjalan, tutup tandan sawit dengan terpal atau plastic tebal agar suhunya tetap terjaga. Jika perlu, bolak balik kompos untuk menurunkan suhu dalam kurun waktu seminggu sekali. Suhunya akan mencapai 700 dan memakan waktu 2-3 minggu. Tahapan ini akan memakan waktu 1,5-3 bulan.
  • Proses panen kompos. Jika kompos sudah siap panen, maka bisa langsung diaplikasikan kepada tanaman. Namun pastikan kadar minyak dari berbagai proses sudah mencapai 60-65%. Kadar air kompos pun harus mencapai angka yang sama ya!
